Maintenance of your printer

"Ah those cleaning regulations for our printer we don't take very closely. At the end of every work week I clean the printer and sometimes we forget because it's almost weekend."

Doesn't sound illogical but can have hefty consequences for your print quality and your wallet in the long run.

Proper maintenance of your printer is a dire necessity. Problems such as nozzle failure, streaks in your output and banding are very often caused by poor maintenance. Inks can dry out, whether solvent, eco solvent or UV drying.

Ink that accumulates around the printhead can lead to quality problems in your prints. Ink dries under the influence of air or UV light and accumulates around the print head and the area around the print head. The cap (place where the print head parks in) becomes dirty and no longer seals the print head properly. Air gets to the ink and dries on the nozzles and the circuit board. Result: streaks or smudges on the prints, or even worse in time an intervention is needed and maybe even replacement of parts.

It is indeed advisable at the end of the working day to quickly clean the area around the print head with a little cleaning fluid. You can use swabs for that or any ribbon-free wipes. This is usually detailed in the instructions for use with your printer. The little effort of an evening service will ensure that you can start the next day with a clean printer and high-quality output.

The right maintenance products

1. Power Wipes

For hand cleaning. Removal of grease, fat, oil, ink, toner, wet paint, brake dust, soot, felt tip pen, tar, glue, resin. These are impregnated cleaning wipes: where water cannot or should not be used, use the Power Wipes. It cleans, degreases and removes odors. (article number: TDPWIPES)

2. Lintfree Wipes

Lint-free wipes for cleaning critical printer parts where no fibers should remain. These premium, heavyweight multipurpose wipes are made of polyester. They do not tear, are soft and non-abrasive, making them ideal for critical, sensitive surfaces. Available per 100 pieces in 20 x 20 cm size. (Item number: ISCW/100)

3. Swabs

Cleaning swabs for removing ink residue in difficult areas. Clean printheads and the capping of your printer with these flexible swabs. Extra wide area for ink and dirt pick-up.

Please note, these sticks come in 2 versions, 1 for solvent printers (part number: TDSWABS-FPTS/100) and 1 for UV printers & latex printers (part number: TDSWABS-FFTS/50). It is important to use the correct type.

4. Disposable gloves

Protect your hands from dirt, solvents and from photoinitiator in case of UV drying inks with our disposable gloves. These are Nitrile gloves. (Article number: OV1115)

5. Cleaning fluids
